Mission Arlington 2014: Day Three

The team had quite the day today!

First off, they picked up furniture (or attempted to) as their service project today. Mission Arligton is so big, so people from the community often call for them to come pick up old furniture. It wasn't the most successful, as some of the people said they had canceled the pick up and others had stuff that was not in good enough shape to donate.

Then at Rainbow Express, they had two young guys accept Christ!! Praise The Lord! The youth are doing a great job stepping up and leading, even when that's not something they normally do.
Tonight, the group went to a Mission Arlington Kids Camp night to help out. Beth has a fun video on her Facebook page of some of the fun they had. And a little birdie told me they might have stopped for ice cream before heading back to the apartment... S

Mission Arlington 2014: Day Two!

The team started the day at MA with worship and prayer. Their service project today was to pick up garbage and invite residents at the complex they were having rainbow express this afternoon.

Rainbow express went really well. They had 27 kids show up! Jacob led large group.  Jacob, Greg and Dustin led small group with the boys. Hannah led small group with the girls. Sarah, McKenna and Morgan taught the memory verse for today. And of course, the boys led games (Brett, Greg and Jacob). Today's story was of John following Jesus to become fishers of men. The memory verse was 1 Peter 2:21.
And Paige sent me this pic of their youngest attendee, who blew bubbles all day. ;-)
Special thanks to Jennifer for providing all the pictures and play by plays! Oh and the Stone sisters have been reunited too!

Please pray for extra energy tomorrow after a long and hot two days. Also pray that the kids return and the gospel really begins to penetrate their hearts. Pray for our team to continue to be courageous and step way outside their comfort zone.

Mission Arlington 2014: Day One

The team got to start their ministry bright and early this morning! They were paired up and sent out to many different ministry opportunities this morning all across Arlington. Justin and Dustin preached at an assisted living chapel service, Beth went to an all women's bible study for either women of abuse or something to that degree, Jennifer and Brett went to an apartment bible study for youth and adults and they led the youth meeting, and Haley,Paige and McKenna did nursery and toddler care for another church ad had TONS of kids (like 14 one and under!!). Those are the ones I am certain of, but everyone went somewhere and got put to work!
Then they all headed to the Misson Arlington team worship and prayer service, which is usually a really awesome experience bc you get to hear Mrs.Tillie who is the founder of all of this ministry talk about Gods call on her life. What an amazing woman.

This afternoon the team went to 5 different apartment complexes to hand out flyers for Rainbow Express, the VBS-like ministry they will be doing each afternoon. I hear poor Morgan even fell down some stairs! Ahh! She's ok though.
The team had some planning and prep time tonight for their Rainbow Express time tomorrow. Each person will have a role like song leader, memory verse leader, bible study teacher, role taker (making sure to write down all kids names and addresses so Mission Arlington can follow up), games leader, etc.
Justin said this is the biggest group Arlington has ever had there at once (like the total number of volunteers from different churches this year).

Please pray for their day tomorrow. For an amazing ability to handle heat. For their mission projects whatever they may be!!

Mission Arlington: They Made It!

Well our MA2014 team rolled out at 6am yesterday morning, packed like sardines into two vehicles. We have 18 people on this trip, and I am so excited to see how God will use them, stretch them, and bless them through this.
They made great time and were in Arlington by 6pm! Way to go guys! They grab some dinner and got settled into their new home for the week. Mission Arlington is a huge ministry- a Salvation Army on steriods as Justin would say- and they have apartments that have been given to them all over the city. This is what our team is staying in. It is basically a completely empty two bedroom apartment that has seen better days. The condition is pretty rough compared to what our team is used to. But they figured out how to stuff them all in, and Beth says they even have space for a few more 😉.
I cannot verify if Doris is reading an appropriate book or not :-) haha just kidding!
