the building of a boat

at the camp we are going to, they have a big boat race at the end of the week. the youth group must build some type of boat that will stay afloat and carry a youth or two around a  path and back to shore. it is meant to help build community and it is a blast.
so this past wednesday night, we headed to jack estes's garage armed with six pool noodles to build a boat.  i should let you know that five or six dad's came along with us. and they had a plan! so most of us just stood around and let them do their thing, but i thought i would share a few pics to get you pumped about camp! enjoy!

Youth Camp 2009: Crossing here we come!

We will be heading to Jonathan Creek for youth camp at Crossings Ministries this Monday! Boy has it come quickly. There will be 20 of us going, including the adults.

We will be updating the blog each day with photos (strong internet willing- pray for it) and memories from the day. I hope this will help everyone back home see what the youth are experiencing and aid in discussions when we get back on Friday.

Justin and I are really excited for the students to have this experience. This camp is focused on growing the students in their day to day spiritual walk, as well as building closer community within the youth group. Here are some prayer requests for the week:

  • Safe travel to and from camp.
  • Focus! that our students will be seeking the Lord and listening to what He is teaching them.
  • Growth! In their faith, as well as their understanding of their faith as a whole. We have students in several different phases of their faith journey.
  • Fun! That we would be able to relax and leave the worries of home at home.
  • Community! Please Please Please pray that our students would grow as a christian community this week. That they would open up to one another in a real and deep way and that they would challenge each other to seek the Lord each day!
Thanks everyone!

Welcome to our Blog Adventures!

Hey everyone!

Welcome to a blog dedicated to the youth ministry of Smiths Grove Baptist Church, "Relevant in the Grove". We hope this site will become a blessing to all readers, and will ultimately point them to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

So what will this blog be?
  • A place for Justin, myself, and possibly other church members to communicate with and challenge our youth to grow in their faith and love for the church.
  • A place for our youth to come and talk about new issues, to wrestle with hard truths, and to connect ot one another.
  • A place for our youth parents to be educated on what to talk about and how to talk about it with their youth.
  • A place for our congregation to connect with the younger generation of our church.
  • Ultimately, a place to see lovers of Christ live life. Messy, hard, sometimes fun, sometimes sad, sometimes frustrating, sometimes unbelievable life.
So I hope you will join us on the journey to become more relevant in the lives of our youth and our community.
